Where is Shelter Island?

Rest assured, the members of the Class of 1966 who have moved from the Island have not forgotten where it is! For the benefit of our home page visitors from one of the other corners of cyberspace, here's a quick synopsis:

Shelter Island is located near the East End of Long Island--about one-hundred miles from the City. It's a very nice place to summer, and a pretty neat place to grow up. One must take a ferry to go to the movies, but that just encourages everyone to be more creative and a bit more resourceful in finding good ways to use their time.

The High School has more in common with a private boarding school than many commonly-found regionalized High Schools. It provided us a very fine education, and everyone from our class has been quite successful in pursuing his or her career and family goals.

If you've never been to the Island and you're in search of somewhere better to vacation, live, or retire, Shelter Island is a destination worthy of consideration. Could there be a more quiet and reflective place from which to surf the Web?

For more information on Shelter Island, visit the Island's Web site: The Shelter Island Register.

Shelter Island is east of New York City, between the North and South Forks of Eastern Long Island. It is just above Sag Harbor and the "Hamptons" on the map.

Shelter Island is completely surrounded by water. Ferries travel every few minutes to Greenport on the North Fork, and North Haven on the South Fork.
